While in Utah, we just HAD to visit the girls' favorite spot- Hogle Zoo. Though it was quite a feat coordinating everything, once the kids were exploring, fun was had by all. Mara & Ella always have such fun with the kids & though the day was hot, it was super cool.

This year was so much fun at the lake & we were so excited to see all the cousins! We spent our time swimming & playing ping pong (thanks Nielsie & Tara!!), sippin on virgin lava flows, and providing all the kids with an endless supply of snacks and things to do. The weather was perfect & to my delight, it rained for a few hours each day, creating rainbow after rainbow. We love you Bear Lake... see you soon!

Our little Mara is channeling her inner-Martha this summer as often as she possibly can. So far, her crafting skills include purse decorating, flip-flop design, play dough, bracelet making, finger painting, bubble making, cooking, baking,jam-making and what we will lovingly call sticker "fun". Though it is lots of fun & I love ho her face lights up when I tell her we are "doing a craft", it is getting increasingly hard to find crafts that are toddler friendly.

Our Visit to Kansas City

Mara, Grandma, & I went on a girls trip to Kansas City to visit Aunt Sarah, and boy was it fun. It is so gorgeous there-- absolutely something out of a fairy tale-- tree-lined streets, squirrels, and the best BBQ EVER (sorry, Josh)!! Mara had a ball playing with Dylan & the Dragon (a.k.a. Uncle Jared) was kind enough to babysit a LOT so we could ditch out and have some kid-free fun. We had a ball, but Daddy & Ella missed us like crazy (surprisingly, no pictures from their fun-filled weekend).

Has the time passed this quickly? Our sweet Ella is one & she couldn't have loved her birthday party more. Forget presents (which she didn't even OPEN)... not when there's cake & balloons to demolish & destroy. She lunged right at that cake- and we couldn't help but contrast it with Mara's 1st birthday when it took 2 of us to force that girl to make a mess-- how sweet our silly girls are! Ella's temple day was supposed to be calm & peaceful. Llllllong story short? It wasn't. Forgotten paperwork (Joshhhh!!!), a crazy wife in crisis trying to stay non-violent in the temple (Lizzzz!!!), and lots of family members & temple workers trying their darndest to make sure things worked out. And? All's well that ends well, and this was a particularly sweet ending. Our sweet girls were finally brought to us in the temple, where we were sealed. Our loving family has been faithfully at our side since this longing for a family began. And now we have more than we could have ever dreamed of. Though all of these photos are beautiful, my favorite is the one that we didn't know was even being taken... and it is my favorite because I remember exactly what I was thinking at that precise moment... "My sweet husband, we finally have our forever family".

Ellas big day in court was planned perfectly by all... all the correct papers were filled out & waiting. Mom, Dad, & girlies were adorable & fed & out the door in record time. We even arrived early enough to take a few pictures outside the courthouse... too bad it was the wrong courthouse. The lawyers assistant failed to tell us that the courthouse had changed since we last did this... thus, we arrived 2 sweaty, late, stressed (and perhaps swearing) parents & 2 tired, cranky sisters at the courthouse 30 minutes late. Dah... nothing like being late for a finalization hearing to convince the judge that you are suitable parents. Luckily, the girls won them over & everyone was very understanding. All's well that ends well... a phrase we have been reciting a lot lately...

Mara's 2nd Birthday was so sweet! She picked out a Minnie Mouse party dress to wear & was thrilled to wear it with her new cowboy boots (thanks Auntie Brooke!!). Highlights for Mara were... licking the cake batter, blowing the candles, chasing balloons, and riding her brand new pink bike. With Mara's new age begins a new chapter... entitled "Two Year Old Fire-Breathing Dragon Rules All"... we shall see about this...

Sooo.. without good excuse or horrible reason, I have slacked on the whole blogging. So- nag no more, my friends and family... here is our Christmas update extraordinaire (and yet more to come as I get it)...

We went to Utah for Christmas- it was delightful. The whole Hansen clan was there... with what seemed like a million toddlers & babies in tow. Kids alternated playing and fighting (but more playing). Parents, too. Santa came, Grandpa read the Christmas story from the Bible, and there was the annual Hansen Christmas program. All the traditions were happily and cozily in place & we couldn't have felt more blessed than we did Christmas morning as we woke up our 2 beautiful daughters and watched them be in awe of the magic that is Christmas.

Halloween... Iggy style

YES!! Okay? Yes, we are freaks! Yes, our kids are still babies! Yes, we know!! And YES-- we took our kids to Mickey's totally awesome Halloween Party! It was worth every jab we'll surely take for it. The girls had a ball (especially Mara, who danced until she was so dizzy, she was tippin' in the streets). The boys each ran their own little racket to get extra candy (we were careful to stay a few paces behind, but the costumes were a give-away that they were indeed with us). And we would love to go EVERY YEAR! I think my actual favorite part of the whole trip came as I crept from tucking in the girls to see Josh taking inventory of the candy... serious... he even organized it into groups. The Trunk-or-Treat in Vegas was also a blast-- by the time we were driving home, Mara finally got the hang of the "trick or treat" and has been expecting candy this way ever since. WE LOVE HALLOWEEN!!!

I signed Mara up for the cutest stinkin' class ever-- "Pixie Parade"!! It is adorable- the little pixies sing and dance, chase fairies, and play with a magical pixie parachute (Mara's fave). She wasn't a fan of the pixie dust and she ATE the pixie sticker, but she had such a ball!!

So... Iggy Summer 2010 ROCKED!! It went fast & crazy & we have never felt as happy & grateful as we have spending our days with our sweet ladies. As requested, here are a few pics of our house at Bear Lake, where we spent as many moments swimming, playing, and shake-eating as possible. WE LOVE IT there! I spent my last summer in Kolob... a few weeks after camp, I was released as YW Pres. It was a humbling & awesome opportunity & I will forever love "my" girls. We went to Disneyland, where the girls met Mickey for the first time & we got to be in the parade. Don't ask why... it's so tiring telling people again and again how famous & important we are. The girls have been enjoying their sister time-- Mara looks out ever so protectively for her little sis. And though there are MANY moments I feel I might lose my mind, there are even more little moments that I am struck by that strange reminder of just how different life was just 2 short summers ago... wow-- life flies!

Maternity Leave? More like VAY-KAY!!

So... I suppose many use their precious (and they ARE precious) weeks of maternity leave relaxing & sleeping, etc, etc. We Iggys prefer to cram as much fun & travel in as humanly possible. I think Ella will definitely grow up to be quite a little travel bug. Anyhoo... our next trip was to Utah- to visit with family & let them get a good look at the newest little Ig. We snuck in a trip to Hogle Zoo, despite the SNOW (that's right, folks, SNOW) & Mara LOVED it. Next was quite a big job-- settling our little house in Bear Lake. It is coming along & though it was a LOT of work (shout out to my most patient mother & to who-ever invented Cheetos, the perfect bribery snack), we are very excited & had a lot of fun!

P.S. These updates are dedicated to a very special Phoenix lady-- you know who you are... sorry they took so long... nap time is golden hour around here!! XOXO

My sister told my about this website (homemadebyjill.blogspot.com) that boasted the cutest kids playhouse- & when I checked it out, I fell in love! Since I have a bit of time, I tackled the project & Mara is IN LOVE!! The house is made entirely from felt & slips right over the kitchen table, so you can fold it away & wash it. The door, mailbox, and windows open so they can play peek-a-boo & have special treats delivered & all the veggies & flowers come off for her their make-believe pleasure. Though the one online was definitely more detailed, I was too lazy to follow any of the templates. But I still LOVED making it & hope the girls will enjoy hanging out in there for many days to come.... oh, girls are SUCH FUN!!!

Ella is HERE!! Our Sweet little Ella Marie was born on Saturday, April 10th @ 3:08 & weiged in at 6 lbs. 11 oz & 19 inches long. She is even more beautiful than we had imagined... and she already rivals Mara for amount of hair per square inch. The experience has been so wonderful & humbling. Ellas sweet birthmother allowed me the unique opportunity to be with her as Ella entered this world. Though I was nervous that I might faint or worse, the experience was so beautiful & touching. We continue to marvel at the strength & selflessness of birthmothers, without whom we would not be able to have our sweet little family. Ella is such a perfect fit into our crazy clan & bringing her home felt like putting in the last piece of a puzzle. Welcome, sweet girl, welcome!!

Once upon a time, there lived a little princess. She was a very fun, loving, and adorable princess, but with only dollies & fuzzy dogs to give kisses to. Our sweet little Mara did the unthinkable... she turned one!! The nerve! I can't believe the year has passed so quickly. I am happy to report that Mara is an excited little "Halloweener". She loved the haunted village we put up in the family room- we'd turn off the lights to look at it, and she would "ooh & ahh" for EVER. She transformed into Tinkerbell and with a little pixie dust (and several hours of sewing), Josh & I became Peter Pan & Wendy. We did some Trick-or-Treating with the Iggy cousins and Mara proudly held her bucket all night as the neices fought over whose turn it was to take her to the door. Fun was had by all and we are already eagerly awaiting next years haunted season.

Ahhh, Bear Lake-- there's definitely something about the air up there (and the shakes). This was Mara's first trip there and she LOVED it! Our days were full of swimming, relaxing, and great food, but most importantly laughs between family and kisses between cousins. FOUR babies!! So... actually a large part of the trip was spent smelling bums and listening through doors to see which parenting unit was up to bat. Flashes from our trip last year kept coming to my mind... how we had such fun and were soooo cautiously looking forward to sharing it with our little one yet to come. This year was proof of happy endings and a first of many more to come!!

I'm afraid to announce that I have just turned the big three-oh. Yikes. Who knew it would come so fast? NO one told me! Luckily, I have a super sweet husband who miraculously (and for possibly the first time ever) kept a secret and whisked me away to Disneyland, where my mom & sister were waiting to surprise me. We had a ball together. Those sneaky girls had been flown in earlier and made everything super pretty and special. There was ice cream and swimming, Alice and Buzz... the cousins learned how to kiss... and not much napping. Not sure what to expect at Disney with 2 babies? In a word? Mayhem. And I can't think of any place I'd rather be. Thanks, Joshy-- you're the best!!

Okay, Okay--- y'all KNEW we wouldn't make it to a year before we could take our princess to the Happiest Place on Earth. So HERE is the proof-- we are Disney freaks.... and raisin' another tiny Disney freak. Mara LOVED Small World and Cotton Candy (it was dentist approved, ha, ha). It truly was a weekend full of fun & firsts... first sugar, first time to meet Winnie the Pooh, first mickey ears, first time in the pool, and first time for Mom & Dad to have the fun experience of a shrieking child in a public place with no hope of disguise or disappearance..... ahhhh... memories. It was a vacation we have long dreamed of- and could not have been more perfect!

Christmas 2008-- hands down, the best, most meaningful Christmas ever, with Mara now in our lives. This year, we celebrated early with Josh's family, then made the treacherous drive to Utah to spend Christmas with my family, who met Mara for the very first time. It was snowy and cold, and fun and full of love and laughter. We are so grateful for our families and the love and friendship we share!!.... oh, and poor Josh spent all the nights in Utah up with Mara, since I got sick right over Christmas.... poor, tired guy!!

Christmas time is always a magical time, but with Mara in our lives, this year is more spectacular than ever!! Josh could hardly wait to put up the tree and when he did, we discovered Mara's fascination with Christmas lights, so we quickly put a tree up in her room. Last weekend we took her to Ethel M, where she could see tons and tons of lights, but that bundling process must have been pretty cozy, because she slept through the whole thing!!

Bringing Mara home was one of the most overwhelmingly wonderful moments. Josh's family was sooooo excited to meet her and since then, we have just been watching our hungry little hippo grow & grow- she is already smiling and laughs when her daddy "sings" to her! Mara Jane Ignatowicz was born November 8, 2008 and placed in our loving arms November 10th. She weighed 7 lb. 10 oz. and is 20.25" long. We have been so humbled by this whole experience and marvel at the strength of our birthmother and angel, Katt. As our sister-in-law Tara says, Mara is an answer to so so so many prayers and we are amazed at how this little soul has healed our hearts near bursting with love and joy.

Josh participated in his first triathlon--- and almost his last! The poor boy did not train AT ALL (poor sucker) and was quite dismayed at all the kicking and pelting during the swimming portion! As I waited (and waited) on the beach, I began to worry- but finally, a scraggly and sad looking Josh washed up on shore. He finished the next two events in great time and had sooo much fun, that he's already looking up the next Vegas Triathlon..... any volunteers for an a.m. cheerleader?

We celebrated our 9th anniversary this September.... I know- can you believe it?!? Of COURSE, we chose the most romantice place we could think of... the very spot of our honeymoon nine short years ago.... Bear Lake Rocks!!

We took a little trip to hang out with the Hansen clan up at Bear Lake. It was SOOO much fun- we water skiied, swam and jet-skiied. We watched movies and barbequed and Josh read books in his favorite chair. We visited our patch of dirt that overlooks the turquoise-colored lake and ate at our favorite little po-dunk dive. The most fun of all was meeting our newest little nephew, Dylan and spending some time with our family!!

Josh & I have had the opportunity of a lifetime... to meet the birthmother to our first child. She is happy and kind, thoughtful and crazy, and most important, she is our angel. We also had the unique experience of meeting her wonderful family. We didn't know what to expect, and were thrilled to discover that meeting Katt felt like meeting an old friend that we'd known forever. At her ultrasound today, we discovered that on November 12th, we will be welcoming a beautiful princess into this world!!

We celebrated Father's Day with a huge BBQ & swimming with the whole Iggy clan! It was so much fun and made us so excited for the day that we can celebrate Father's day with sloppy kisses and diaper duty! I love you, Josh and know you will one day soon make the most adorable daddy!!

A Windy City "Weak"-end

This Spring, we decided to go to Chicago to see the beautiful architecture and take in a ball game... little did we know we would freeze our little tookuses off!! All the natives were walking around in T-shirts, while we were bundled in as many layers as we could pack on. Embarassingly WEAK Las Vegans, we are. The real reason for the trip came a few days later, when we drove to see our dear friends from Josh's mission, the Henries. They were blessing their adorable twin daughters that weekend and we just couldn't miss it!

Josh's parents took us to the Magical Kingdom in September. They are so proud of their son and wanted to do something special in honor of his graduation. We had never seen so much land dedicated to our favorite Mouse. We had lunch with Cinderella in her castle, went on a safari, visited Snow White and her dwarves, and still didn't see it all! It was a blast!!

A EUROPEAN CELEBRATION

For Josh's Graduation, I surprised him with a trip to Europe. It was the most fun we've ever had- a time we will never forget. We traveled through London, Paris, Nice, Venice, Firenze, and Rome. Josh's favorite part was all the "jambon y fromage" he ate in France. Mine? The Eiffel Tower at night... and the fact you can find gelato everywhere you go.
